Counterparty Specialist - Credit Risk
At MFT Energy, we innovate energy trading through our people and technology.
Join a world of energy as MFT Energy's new Counterparty Specialist - Credit Risk
At MFT Energy, we trade to make markets efficient and to facilitate the green transition. As we continue to grow globally, we are strengthening our Risk & Treasury Team and looking for a driven Counterparty Specialist to help shape and oversee our counterparty risk landscape - including frameworks, policies, analysis, and reporting - in close collaboration with key internal stakeholders.
The job as Counterparty Specialist
As our new Counterparty Specialist, reporting directly to the CRO, you will take the lead on credit risk analysis, monitoring, and the ongoing development of our credit risk policy and framework. You will work closely with the Compliance Team, which facilitates the KYC aspects of onboarding, ensuring a smooth and robust end-to-end counterparty process. This role is primarily focused on credit risk, but you will share responsibility for the overall onboarding process in close collaboration with key stakeholders across the business. You will play an integral part in ensuring that we manage counterparty risk effectively while enabling business growth.
This is an operational role with a strategic perspective: you will work closely with the Risk and Treasury Teams, Compliance Team, trading desks, and stakeholders across the business to ensure that our credit risk and KYC processes are best-in-class and scalable.
Your key responsibilities
- Perform credit risk assessments, including detailed analysis of counterparties’ financial statements and annual reports, to recommend internal credit ratings and credit lines.
- Set credit limits, monitor exposures, and report on counterparty risk across markets. Develop, maintain, and update MFT Energy’s credit risk policy, framework, and processes in line with business growth and risk appetite.
- Support and improve risk reporting and dashboarding for relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with the Compliance Team to ensure effective counterparty onboarding and KYC processes.
- Act as a trusted partner for Trading Teams, Legal, and senior management on counterparty matters.
- Leverage data and technology to optimize credit risk workflows and automation.
- Contribute to ongoing development of data models and reporting tools in SQL, PowerBI, and the broader Microsoft Power Platform.
What we're looking for:
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in credit risk, counterparty onboarding, or KYC, preferably within energy trading, commodities, or financial services.
- Solid understanding of counterparty and credit risk fundamentals, and motivation to develop expertise further.
- Strong analytical skills and experience working with data management, dashboards, and reporting.
- Technical proficiency with SQL and the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, PowerBI) is an advantage.
- Curious, structured, and proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership.
- Good communication skills and ability to build trusted relationships across teams.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
